Mobile online marketing is set to keep growing in 2012. Find out what you can do to take advantage of this.
A recent report by Market Watch shows the growth potential that the billion dollar industry of mobile internet marketing has. It is estimated that there will be 114 million users of mobile internet devices in the United States in 2012. Use of smart phone devices, such as the Apple iPhone and Android based mobile phones is expected to go up to 106 million users in the United States during the 2012 year. Mobile phones are not only used for person to person communication anymore, but rather as internet access devices as well and any Online Marketing experts will need to take note of this in order to give the best marketing solutions to their clients. Small businesses are taking notice as well, however many are still lagging behind and haven’t yet created a mobile marketing strategy at the beginning of the 2012 year.
However, the Market Watch report also states that while there is remarkable potential for growth and new opportunities presented by mobile internet marketing, few companies are doing all they can to take advantage of it. As mobile use becomes widespread, this is not a trend that can simply be ignored. However, things are starting to change. Search engine marketing companies are now offering SEO and search marketing services which seek to take advantage of the increase in mobile traffic that all kinds of websites, including online shopping sites are receiving and will receive in the future. Online advertising services are also increasingly adapting themselves to the rise in mobile internet use. Google Adwords, for example, lets marketers target users of mobile devices for some of their ad campaigns. This makes advertising to mobile users a lot easier, as a specific ad group can be created which targets them and which will direct all clicks to a mobile version of the advertiser’s web site.
Creating mobile compatible web sites should also be on the to-do list of businesses and online marketers. Already, a number of Web Development companies are creating special mobile versions of websites for their clients. Many of these clients already have a “regular” website, but want to create a mobile one which will be fully compatible with mobile devices. Large companies, such as the big online shopping sites (eBay, Amazon, etc), various online business directories like the Yellow Pages, as well as countless other corporations such as banks and finance companies have all put together a mobile compatible version of their main business website.
Online marketing experts recommend that small businesses do the same. Since many companies have been slow to take full advantage of mobile device marketing those who do so could be rewarded. Lower competition in mobile advertising for certain business types could mean an easier access to new and valuable customers.
